What length of time is your golf ball used for?

Recommended Posts

I've played with plenty of players through the years and most high handicappers use any old ball, be it new or something that you wouldn't hit at the range! in fact I've even seen people out with range balls :-)

I found a TP5 last Friday looked like it had been hit once bargain as I'd just smashed my pro v1 into the deep rough so IDEAL swap out, Saturday I braved LLanymynech am/am with it and successfully guided it around for 18 holes, So Sunday medal the next day, I liked the feel and re-marked it up with my design and OFF went. The poor thing lasted another 18 holes and still looked in good shape. it's been hit for 76 and 82 shots (mostly putts I'll add at my home course #Slopey)

I'll stop rambling on and get to the point, how long do you use your balls for? and ideally when should you change them out?

Keep playing it until there are scuffs, cuts or marks that would affect flight or roll if you ask me. Losing it is far more likely to happen to mine first...

Ernie Els says there is only one birdie in a ball. He is wrong as I had 2 birdies and an eagle on the same day with a ball.

I use the same type of ball , Titliest  Velocity. I will grab a couple out of my bag that look good. I will use 1 for my tee shot and other for provisional shots if required.

At the end of my round i will put both balls in my bag till next time and start again.  CAC.

last weekend, Thurs-Sun I played 90 holes, lost a lot of balls,

Round 1 lost a ball on hole 8

Round 2, tee shot on 3rd lost in bushes, 4th hole second shot in the water, tee shot on 12 in the clag lost,

Round 3, after a great tee shot on the 8th, my second found water, 15th hole my tee shot went straight left into the water

Round 4, 2nd hole, pulled tee shot into 4ft high rough, hole 8 tee shot blocked into trees, 17th hole third into the green topped into the water

Round 5. it was that bad I'm struggling to remember the round

I am one of those golfers that often annoy their fellow players by hitting it mostly straight down the middle, albeit not anywhere near as far as many! So a lot of my golf balls become like a winning conker and I lose track of how many rounds they have survived. Main cause for change being the many ditches crossing the courses I play. You can't fish it out, if you cant see it in the gloop in the bottom!

Use anew ball every comp. All balls I've used before I either use in practice rounds or put in my practice ball bag for the range/short game area.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away there was the Kasco Win-D.  A ball that was meant to be good in windy conditions.  I lost count of how many rounds I played with the ball, certainly most of a full winter season.  I eventually 'retired' the ball like a loved sportsman's jersey.  I wouldn't be surprised if I still have it somewhere.

bought some wilson staff pro balls from a boot sale £4 for a dozen, thinking that the cost negates the fact I'm losing lots of balls.

anyway, ball #1 has now lasted 5 rounds, it's tried to go missing in action a couple of times, but I keep finding it.

after this post it wouldn't surprise me if it only lasted one more hole....9_9

If I don't lose them I usually use a new ball for a around 27 holes and then confine it to my spares pocket when I take a provisional or if I lost lots of balls in a round :D

Pretty impressive though - 5 and 1/2 rounds !

Tried so hard with a new back of AD333 yellows.  Lasted the whole of 18 holes on Friday but only 12 holes today.  Lost the ball in the sun never to be found :(

The next ball then took 4 holes to lose :/
