  1. England Golf are cracking down on players that game the handicap system to win big prizes away from home! Will this work? Have you had any experience of this happening? http://www.golfshake.com/news/view/10871/Handicapping_Rule_Targets_Golfers_Who_Manipulate_System.html
  2. Some great improvements in there! Some I really like and some I don't. It is about time rules used common sense and if someone does not gain an advantage they should not be penalised.
  3. Have you played Conwy? I hear that is meant to be excellent?
  4. With St Davids Day just around the corner, it got me thinking which is the best course/destination to play golf at in Wales? I have not played a lot of golf in the country, but remember a brilliant holiday to Cardigan when I was younger and playing the course every day. Loved every minute!
  5. This is a nice read from Ed. I know I am guilty of just bashing balls down the driving range. I wonder how much more effective my practice would be if I used Ed's methods: http://www.golfshake.com/improve/view/10806/How_measureable_is_your_practice.html
  6. Hi all, Just wanted to give you a heads up that there is a nice little comp on Golfshake right now. We have teamed up with SuperStroke to give away a set of their S-Tech grips as used by Sergio Garcia and Jordan Spieth: http://www.golfshake.com/competitions/view/10821/Win_a_full_set_of_SuperStroke_STech_Grips_for_your_clubs.html Good luck!
  7. I loved the Wilson D300, very unlucky not to make the list!
  8. Ok, who is excited about the new drivers for 2017? Some great new gear out there this year. Huge launch from Callaway with the EPIC and some really solid offerings from the likes of Titleist and Srixon, not to mention a first from COBRA which will help with stat tracking! Check out my Top 5 drivers of 2017, let me know what you think! Are you excited about any of these or are they a flop in your opinion. I would love to hear your opinion. Also how could we make these videos better for you guys, very much open to suggestions.
  9. Hi, We recently ran a feature on Thailand on the site. I have to say, I did not realise the golf was so good, at least that is the way it appears! Has anyone played? What was it like first hand? http://www.golfshake.com/course/news/10681/A_guide_to_golf_in_Thailand.html
  10. We have said this before, but does his latest withdrawal really signal the end for Woods? http://www.golfshake.com/news/view/10743/Golf_World_Reacts_to_Tigers_Latest_WD.html
  11. Thanks for the info Matt, There is now a 'Best Golf Waterproof Trousers' guide: http://www.golfshake.com/news/view/10580/The_Best_New_Waterproof_Trousers_of_2017.html
  12. Much like any industry, you will get good, bad and average pros. Some are highly knowledgeable about club fitting and care a lot about getting you the right gear, some just want to shift gear. That is the nature of things. Seeing a clubmaker is a really good choice and they will be able to take customisation to a level that many pros cannot. If you are having lessons and changing your swing there can be a definite advantage to having your coach help with the fitting process, either doing the fitting himself if it is something that he can do to the right level or giving you information to pass on to a fitter or club builder. That way you will be able to build in any short to medium term adjustments that are needed to your set.
  13. I know I'm going to get one, just not sure which one it's going to be! http://www.golfshake.com/news/view/9296/Nightmare_Christmas_Golf_Gifts.html
  14. 28 for me! (Lucky boy) Although I have been lucky enough to play all the courses at Woburn and Sunningdale.
  15. Not a marketing ploy at all! It costs manufacturers a fortune to create all the fitting tools and then stock all the available options. It makes their businesses far more complex. Forecasting is far more difficult for them, let alone staff training and the effort that goes into making sure the retailers are up to speed. Yes, the cost is no doubt passed on to the consumer, but it would be far easy to offer off the shelf options. In the end they do it because it works and it is the right thing to do for consumers. I cannot count the amount of times I have tried a driver that I thought 'felt right' only to be proven incorrect by a launch monitor or in other words 'science'.
  16. HI guys, If you are tracking for handicap, that will automatically 'in effect' change your score to stapleford. This happens on Golfshake and via the CONGU system. It is just the way the system is designed to work in the UK. The US will take an average of your past recent rounds and Europe another system and then Australia another system. The world's governing bodies are working towards a worldwide system which we will see in 5-10 years and will likely be based more on the US system than the UK. There is more information on how your handicaps are calculated on Golfshake here: http://www.golfshake.com/golfhandicap/#handicapcalculator I hope that helps.
  17. It is that time of year The waterproofs are on, even when it is not raining! Especially the trousers. I am currently sporting some Under Armour Goretex from 15/16 and i love them, but it might be time for something new. Has anyone dived in and treated themselves this winter? Any recommendations? We have a golf waterproofs guide on Golfshake as well if anyone is looking to buy: http://www.golfshake.com/news/view/10563/The_Best_New_Waterproof_Jackets_of_2017.html
  18. @Brian TThere is some new tech which is quite stand out. More news in January I believe....
  19. There are lot of rules that are aimed at stopping 'cheating' all at the expense of unfair occurrences on the course and in turn penalising honest golfers. My feeling is common sense should be used a lot more in golf. If your playing partners deem that you have not gained an advantage, then replace the ball and crack on!!
  20. I don't really have one. Part from using wooden tees, no reason for it. Just can't abide plastic tees!
  21. For what it's worth, I know loads of very good players who do not play with a glove. + handicaps and pros. All them just never started wearing one. Would they be better with one, probably not. I wear one, but only because I am hooked. I hate hitting shots without one. I think it maybe it is down to how much you sweat personally, probably more useful for some than others?
  22. Absolutely, they are making some cracking kit these days!
  23. About time this happened!! http://www.golfshake.com/news/view/10573/RA_and_USGA_Announce_PostDustin_Johnson_Putting_Rule.html
